A lackadaisical scullery maid in cap and apron, seated before a fireplace. She has a dustpan in her hand and was evidently about to clean out the grate when the temptation to take a break became too much. A black cat wearing a blue collar is also enjoying the warmth of the fire. The scullery has a brick floor and a narrow table by the wall holds a couple of crockery pieces. A few pots and pans are hung on the walls and a cupboard is around the corner from the hearth

Two sisters in complementary dresses -- the blonde girl in white with blue accents, and the brunette in blue with white accents -- sitting in a white-panelled room at a sunny window which gives a view of a rose garden, trimming sunflowers to be put into blue-and-white oriental vases. Though they are dressed in the style of the 1820s, the sunflowers and the colors blue and white are emblematic of the aesthetic movement (art for arts sake) of the late 19th century when the picture was painted. (1889). Counted cross stitch chart.
Stitch count: 305 x 312 (approximately 17 x 17 on 18-count fabric)
